September 11th, the day
that will forever be etched in the minds of those who remember. Although I am
late, I thought I would share how my day went ten years and one day ago.
I remember it like it was
yesterday (I’m sure that’s what they all say right). I was standing in front of
the mirror in my room. Just a naïve 12-year-old girl, who wanted her hair to
look just right. I remember yelling back at my mom, as she hurried me along so
I wouldn’t be late for school. I mumbled some teenage rants under my breath, as
I settled for less and grabbed the lotion.
The TV was on in my room, as it
always was in the morning, and I was waiting for the weather report that would
not come that morning.
I blinked.
I heard my mother cry out.
I opened my eyes.
There before me, they were
falling. I couldn’t be sure it was real, but it had to be, it was on the news.
Then the report came. A hijacked
plane was on its way to San Francisco! My city, my home, they were shutting it
down. I wouldn’t be going to school that day. No one would.
We sat and prayed.
I remember it like it was
yesterday. But that’s what they all say.
Yes, we all remember it pretty vividly, don't we? Thanks for sharing your account.
ReplyDeleteI remember this day like it was yesterday. I was in the 4th grade at Monte Verde Elementary School. It was a normal day for me until my father came to pick me up early, i thought i was the only one but most kids were picked up early that day, my joy of being taken out of school made me not think much of it. As soon as i arrived home i saw the screen of my television and the news were playing what was going on. At the time the towers were burning, i had no idea those buildings existed. Once i learn the situation i was shocked and scared because most people began saying the Golden Gate was going to be brought down next. I was very tense and so was my whole household. It was a day i will never forget
ReplyDeletei remember being in Colombia at the time. It was so impacting, i remember all the faces of shock and everyone crying. it wasn't until i got home, turned on the news that i understood the magnitude of what was occurring. I will never forget all those people leaping to their deaths.
